Don’t be a fool – be Foolproof!
More than 15% of breakdowns are caused by people putting the wrong fuel in their car, locking keys in cars, running out of fuel or suffering a flat tyre according to Kwik Fit Insurance.
And if it’s a Monday morning, that’s when you’re most likely to put the wrong fuel in the car. As a result, Kwik Fit Insurance has launched a new assistance product for people who may feel a comprehensive breakdown policy is outwith their needs but acknowledge that little accidents may happen.
The newly-launched Foolproof product provides cover for some of the more common driver-caused incidents including putting the wrong kind of fuel into a car, breaking or losing keys, lost keys, running out of fuel and flat tyres.
The launch comes on the back of a report by the British Insurance Brokers' Assocation (BIBA) which found that putting the wrong fuel in a car affects up to 150,000 drivers in the UK annually with repairs costing between £150 and £5,000 if the engine is severely damaged.
Martin Oliver, Kwik Fit Insurance’s MD said: “It’s happened to far more people than you would believe – and I think we’ve all had that ‘where did I put my keys’ moment and a second or two of panic as we think they’ve been left in a locked car.
“It’s happened to me twice. Once I put petrol into a diesel and the other time I put diesel into a petrol car.”
“That’s what Foolproof is for. It’s an inexpensive way of providing peace of mind for when these little accidents happen. And they do happen, it’s a fact of life.
“A lot of people don’t think that they need major breakdown cover – perhaps they’ve just bought a new car, so this is a good alternative for them.”
