Scotland’s First ‘Bright Space’ installed in Capability Scotland’s Stanmore House School.
Kwik Fit Insurance has teamed up with Bright Horizons Foundation for Children to create the country’s first ‘Bright Space’ at Capability Scotland’s Stanmore House School in Lanark.
The ‘Bright Space’ is a family room where parents and siblings of the Stanmore pupils can chill out and relax with the child who attends, during visits to the school.
The new facility was unveiled to friends and family of Capability Scotland’s Stanmore House at an opening ceremony yesterday (Thursday 8 November) and gave those involved the opportunity to showcase the new space to many of the families who will benefit from it.
The facility comprises a kitchen area, soft furniture, books and games for children of all ages with specialist sensory equipment expertly designed for those attending the school.
Capability Scotland’s Stanmore House School - a residential school that provides specialist education for children and young people with disabilities – is the first organisation in Scotland to benefit from a ‘Bright Space’. It is the only entirely sponsored ‘Bright Space’ in the UK with all the funding being provided by insurance intermediary Kwik Fit Insurance at a cost of Ł10,000.
Head teacher Hazel Aitken of Stanmore School attended the official opening of Scotland’s first Bright Space; she said: “Stanmore’s Bright Space is fantastic – many families attend the school to visit their children and up until now we have not had such an ideal location for the families to go and spend some quality time.”
“Our children are very well catered for at the school with spacious and very well-equipped areas - every child deserves to develop and learn in a happy and stimulating environment and we are thrilled to have Scotland’s first Bright Space which will be a warm and enriching environment that will give our children and their families a place to play, learn and have fun.”
“Kwik Fit Insurance has supported us heavilly over the last couple of years – more so than we could ever have imagined.”
“Back in 2005, the staff raised Ł25,000 to fund our sensory hydrotherapy pool and many employees gave up their time to revamp the school rooms and the gardens - this further investment has been amazing and something we will always be thankful for.”
June Lynch, Finance Director at Kwik Fit Insurance added: “Kwik Fit Insurance is proud to be part of the Stanmore House School community and can really see the lasting impact the school and its facilities has on the lives of the pupils and their families.”
“Back in 2005, we teamed up with Bright Horizons to create a state-of-the-art onsite nursery at our offices in Uddingston, which at the time was a first in the region.”
“We are delighted to be partnering with Bright Horizons once again to create Scotland’s first Bright Space – there is no one more suited or deserving than Capability Scotland’s Stanmore House School.”
“Playing an active part in our local community is always at the top of the agenda for Kwik Fit Insurance. Working with Bright Horizons by building this Bright Space gives the dedicated and caring professionals who work at Stanmore House and the volunteers from Kwik Fit Insurance more ways to share their gifts and talents with the children.”
“Kwik Fit Insurance continues to be a leader in its industry and our community involvement is no different.”
Susan Hay, Director of the Bright Horizon Foundation for Children said at the opening: “I would like to thank the work of specialists such as Capability Scotland’s Stanmore House – the lack of sufficient attention to disadvantaged groups is finally being made visible.
“The Foundation is privileged to be able to add value through a Bright Space, bringing together the expertise of Kwik Fit Insurance and the sheer enthusiasm of Bright Horizons staff.” Note to editors:
